Level 2 Certificate in Learning Support
- This course provides a general introduction to supporting adults with literacy, language and numeracy needs, and also raises awareness of basic skills needs, including ICT. It includes the following modules: Introduction, Providing Support, Literacy, Numeracy, ESOL and is free to volunteer supporter workers at the College.
Level 3 Skills for Life Teaching Toolkit
- This is the numeracy unit of a qualification that offers tutors and existing Skills for life staff the opportunity to gain knowledge of practical SfL teaching strategies.
L2 Supporting Learning
- This course is a basic introduction to the role of a Learning Support Tutor working with learners who require extra consideration in an Adult Education context. The course does not qualify you to work as a Learning Support Teacher, but may give you an insight into the skills, knowledge and expertise required to undertake this role.
L2 Award in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT Awareness
- This course is the OCNW Level 2 Award in Literacy, Language and ICT Awareness. It raises awareness of basic skills needs, including ICT.

Unit 1 Assessment
Part time
The course aims to equip you with knowledge of practical, SfL teaching strategies. To achieve the full award you must complete 3 Units - Unit 1 and two chosen from Units 2,3,4,5 and 6, in any order. Each unit consists of 15 hours taught sessions (3 hours x 5) and 15 hours directed self study which may include 3 hours practical observation of other practitioners.
Target group:
- Staff who are starting to work with SfL learners and have little or no experience.
- Trained (Level 2) Volunteer Supporters.
- Vocational tutors who are preparing to support SfL learners.
- Existing SfL staff who have no formal SfL tutor qualification.
Starting January 2008.
