Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS)

Who is the programme for?
Those who have already achieved the qualification 'Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector' (PTLLS). The CTLLS programme is the next stage for those deemed to be in an "associate teacher" role or for those who wish to work towards the "full teacher" role. This programme meets with LLUK standards.
What qualifications do I need?
- City and Guilds 7303 Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)
- An advanced qualification in your subject area i.e. the subject you intend to teach.
- GCSE Maths & English or equivalent [support will be available to enable you to work towards these whilst on the course]
What is the programme structure?
You will attend classes at the Hartford Campus for 12 weeks on either Wednesday evening or Thursday afternoon.
What does the programme include?
The CTLLS Award is comprised of four units (three mandatory and one optional). The mandatory units being: PTLLS, Planning and Enabling Learning and Principles and Practice of Assessment. The optional units are related to: the context in which teaching and learning takes place, particular teaching roles or specialised areas e.g. "assessment".
Are there any special facilities for the programme?
None required.
Costs:
£405 -However you may be entitled to remission of fees if you are in receipt of certain benefits. (Please contact Student Recruitment for details of latest programme fees and times and dates of programmes.)
Will there be any extra costs involved? (eg for special equipment or materials)
None.
How is the programme assessed?
There is no examination. You will be assessed on both theoretical and practical assignments.

What can I do next?
This award has been designed to provide progression to the new level 5 Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) or the Phase 2 of the Certificate in Education/PGCE. These qualifications confer the required skills and knowledge to fill the newly named 'Full Teacher' role in the Lifelong Learning Sector.

Who is the programme for?
Those already qualified in their intended teaching subject(s) who want to teach or train students aged 16 and above. The programme is an introductory qualification and will confer a "threshold license to teach". This programme meets with LLUK standards.

The PTLLS Award comprises of one unit based on the teaching/training cycle. The unit is made up of five sections covering the candidate's understanding of:
- own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching
- appropriate teaching and learning approaches in their specialist area
- session planning skills and demonstration of those skills
- how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners
- the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping

These qualifications confer the required skills and knowledge to fill the newly named 'Associate Teacher' and 'Full Teacher' roles in the Lifelong Learning Sector.
