The Fusion Skills for Life Capacity Building Project

The Fusion partnership were successful in obtaining financial support from the Learning and Skills Council for a project designed to improve the availability of information about Skills for Life training opportunities and to stimulate take up of Numeracy training in the North West. The project builds on the networks that were previously established by the Professional Development Units (PDU'S) in each of the five NW sub regions.

The project has also:
- Mapped provision of training for Skills for Life Tutors and the delivery of training to those with low literacy/numeracy skills

And will
- Supports the training of new tutors
- Disseminates useful information including through this website.
- Supports sub-regional networks

The project has already published a NW Directory of Skills for Life Tutor Training Opportunities, listed the training provision available and undertaken a mapping exercise showing "need" based on published data (at ward level) for each sub region.

Network Meetings

In each of the sub regions a coordinator has been identified and they have brought together specialists in a series of "network" meetings. These meetings are designed to ensure an effective flow of information about opportunities and issues in the sub-regions and build local awareness. Not only providers and training organisations attend these meetings, agencies such as LLUK and the LSC also attend on a regular basis.

If you are interested in being part of any of these networks or would like a copy of the NW Skills for Life Training opportunities please contact Siobhan Reilly

LSIS Logo

LSIS have produced a new resource which supports and underpins learners to be able to achieve the National Literacy and Numeracy tests.

This has been developed to help learners to practise the underpinning skills required for the tests - but still be fun! This was launched at the recent LSIS Skills for Life conferences and it will shortly be available in a form that can be downloaded onto a memory stick so it can be used in outreach situations where there is computer access (but no web access).
