All employees are protected by English employment law from sexual orientation discrimination in the workplace from the moment they apply for a job right through until the job ends and this protection against discrimination should cover:
- The recruitment of the employee
- The terms and conditions of the employee’s job
- The employee’s right to work benefits, including pensions
- The employee’s pay/salary
- Whether the individual is classed as a worker or an employee
- Any training undertaken or needing to be undertaken by the employee
- Any transfers or promotions
- All redundancy procedures
- The dismissal of the employee
An individual is protected against the discrimination of their sexual orientation if:
- They are gay, lesbian, bisexual or heterosexual
